Prioritizing Community over Technology

How do we discern whether technology is serving us or harming us?

For this week’s Coffee Break chat,

and I riffed off the following quote:

“I am not ‘against technology’ so much as I am for community. When the choice is between the health of a community and technological innovation, I choose the health of the community. I would unhesitatingly destroy a machine before I would allow the machine to destroy my community.” - Wendell Berry (from this article)

What are the metrics with which we measure the value or detriment of new technology? What do we do when the machines shape the community instead of the other way around?

Here’s the podcast I referenced, about the development of AI technology that speaks for the river.

We’ll be having more chats about community in the lead up to our next webinar in the Leadership for Liminal Spaces program. Join us on September 25th when we talk about Collaborative leadership: Shoulder to shoulder in times of liminality.

Join us to learn more about community building and holding space in the How to Hold Space - Foundation Program, which starts again in October.

Alumni, you still have a few days to register for our Alumni Gathering in September on Vancouver Island!
